In the home stretch

Last week was a special sub-section of the Steiger School called the Radical Evangelism and Discipleship week. This was held at a nearby Christian camp where we were joined by 8 more students, most of which were from New Zealand. It was an intense time of teaching three times a day for three of the days (compared to having one session a day during the normal school). The two other days had one and two sessions in each one respectively. I know God spoke to many of us during the school. For me it was in finances. Sunday night I was commenting to another student how I would be making better money once I moved to Minneapolis. The next day we sang songs such as "Jesus, All For Jesus." David spoke about how money can be a distraction from what God wants to do in your life. Grrr! I had been thinking about giving stuff to God but my salary hadn't crossed my mind. My assumption is that it was going up. I was annoyed for about a but in the end I gave God my salary, whether it goes up, down, or stays about the same. I didn't want to come all this way, make all these changes, and be held back by such a stupid thing as that.

Plans after New Zealand

Things have been going well here at the school. Next week is going to be one of the most intense weeks of the school. Up until now we've had three days of classes per week with one session of teaching per day. This week we've got the Steiger conference where we've got sessions in the morning, afternoon, and evening three of the days along with a session in the morning on one of the days. It will be intense.

So, what's going to happen after the school? I feel my season at Crown and in the western suburbs is done. I feel God is telling me to move to Minneapolis, most likely after the New Age festival missions trip I go to. That's where my church is and where I do ministry; it's where my heart is. I'll probably going to work as a temp for the few weeks between when I return and the missions trip afterward I'll move to Minneapolis and find a permanent job in the area. I don't know yet what will happen with my house. Right now I'm guessing I'll either sell it or rent out all of it. So please join me in praying that God would show me which way to go. Also, if you know of anyone looking to move to the area please send them my way.

Gold mine exploration

Guys like an element of danger. If there's a chance to go exploring or see something that could result in cuts and bruises we'll normally sign up. So while we were on vacation we went to an old gold mine. As we followed the path we went up the side of the mountain and into one of the mine shafts that went parallel to the valley. Except there were no lights on the walls and all we had to illuminate our path was the light at the end of the tunnel. A little farther in we found a mine shaft that went into the mountain, also without lights. Adventure was calling so we explored into the mine shaft about 50 meters, illuminating our path with cel phones and camera flashes. Along the way we got to see glow worms along the ceiling. These are small insects that glow neon blue or green and attract small insects in a tendril they hang down. They are pretty cool.

Later on in this same hike we followed a path along the river except there were no guardrails in this section! It felt like we were going into forbidden areas except it was perfectly legal. It felt really cool.

Right now we've only got four weeks of classes to go. It's hard to believe that six weeks are already done. Time has just flown by here. I've been hanging out with a great group of people, learning new things, and so forth. All of us are changing and growing. It's a really great place to be.

Off on vacation

So far we've completed five weeks of classes here at the school. The sessions have covered a lot different aspects of Christianity, including the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The last two days were with a guy in the prophetic ministry. He talked about the different ways the Holy Spirit speaks, about how usually we are not ready for what God's calling us to do and He uses that time to build up our character so that we can do it. We then prayed for each of the students in the school and Molly typed up what the people prayed. We later got a printout of what people prayed so we can review it, pray about it, and check it against the Bible because God won't say something that contradicts the Bible.

After that we started our 10 day vacation. I got to travel with a group of 8 more students, four of which do the Suitcase Sideshow. We rented a car and have driven all around the north island. So far we've explored a gold mine, been to a few beaches, ridden on horses, seen sulfur pits, and more. I've had a lot of fun traveling with these people and getting to know them better. We also did the Suitcase Sideshow three times: once at a church on a Sunday night, once at a pub later that same evening, and once at a church youth group last night. In each instance we saw God move and do some cool stuff.
